Dr. Magdalena H. Gross brings a rare combination of expertise that uniquely positions her in the field of AI and Education: deep domain knowledge in history education — including more than 15 publications as a former professor — and fluency in frontier AI development and research methods, gained through six years of leading education initiatives at top Bay Area AI startups. Since her early career as a grade school teacher, she has been driven by a consistent set of questions: How do people learn difficult history? And how can we support learning when new information challenges what they believe to be true?

Over the past 20 years, Magdalena has explored these questions across multiple contexts: as an eighth-grade teacher, a professor at the University of Maryland, a research associate at Stanford University, an expert consultant to NGOs and nonprofits, and most recently as an industry leader in AI training and learning. Together, these experiences have given her exceptional clarity about the importance of approaching how people learn and think about the past with a broad, interdisciplinary set of tools and perspectives.
